The Agafay is not sand. It is a rolling stone desert about an hour from Marrakech, with the High Atlas on the horizon and almost no light pollution. It photographs extraordinarily at dusk and it is close enough that the whole evening can happen without an overnight stay.
Timing is the entire plan
Everything hinges on sunset. The usable light lasts around thirty-five minutes and the temperature drops quickly after it. Every element — arrival, walk, moment, dinner — is scheduled backwards from that, and the margin for a late departure from Marrakech is smaller than people expect.
What gets arranged
A private setup in an area with no other guests. Transfer out and back, with a driver who waits. A photographer positioned far enough away to be invisible and close enough to be useful. Dinner either on site or back in the city. Heating, because it gets cold. And a contingency, because wind in the Agafay can arrive without warning.
The rehearsal
The single thing that separates a proposal that works from one that nearly works is walking the site the day before, at the same hour, with the same people. Where the car stops. Where the photographer stands. Which direction you both face. It takes ninety minutes and removes almost every way the evening can go wrong.

Discretion here is logistical, not just polite. Staff briefed to say nothing, a plausible reason for the drive, and a schedule that does not require your partner to wonder why the afternoon is being managed so carefully.
Afterwards
Decide in advance whether the evening ends with a private dinner, a return to the city, or friends waiting somewhere. All three work. Not deciding does not.
